Omagh's dead remembered
THOSE who died in the Market Street bombing on August 15th were remembered during Sunday morning's commemoration service in Omagh for the victims of two world wars.
Relatives of those killed in the atrocity, together with many seriously injured in the blast, attended the annual service of remembrance at the town's Cenotaph.
As ex-servicemen and youth organisations made their way to a service at the College of Further Education, the parade paused for a moment at the site of the bombing.
A bouquet of poppies and red carnations was placed at the site by the Chairman of the local branch of the Royal British Legion, David Givens.
The names of the 29 victims and two unborn twins were later read out by the organisation's president, Roy Maguire, during a poignant service attended by representatives from all the main churches in the town.
Two members of the British Legion branch were bereaved in the atrocity.
Stanley McCombe lost his wife Anne, and World War II veteran Patrick McCrystal's daughter, Geraldine Breslin, was also killed in the blast.
Both women worked in Watterson's drapery shop in High Street.
Wreaths were also placed at the Cenotaph by members of the emergency services who tended those caught up in the bombing just 12 weeks previously.
The Vice-Chairman of Omagh District Council, Allan Rainey together with party colleagues, Crawford McFarland and Reuben McKelvey, laid a wreath on behalf of the people of the town.
And tributes were also placed by pupils from Omagh High School, which lost a number of pupils and past pupils in the blast, and MP William Thompson.
The previous afternoon two Chelsea Pensioners laid a bouquet of flowers at the entrance to Market Street in memory of those who lost their lives.
The pair - who were on a four-day visit to the North -were accompanied by local British Legion representatives and DUP Assemblyman Oliver Gibson.
