Threats to kill Omagh bombers
A NEW threat to the peace process has emerged, with its first target the perpetrators of the Real IRA bomb in Omagh in 1998.
An organisation, calling itself the National Defence Force (NDF), in a statement to a newspaper, said that it intended to carry out a campaign of terror commencing with: "One leading member of Sinn Fein/IRA in the Irish Republic who assisted the Real IRA in this atrocity."
Gardai terrorism specialists and RUC officers are joining forces in a bid to thwart the risk of any assassination or terrorist attacks.
The letter, sent to the Irish Mirror, carried a secret code and was worded so not to give any clues as to its origin, said the threat was being made because of: "the inaction of the Irish Government."
The NDF's statement said "Due to the inaction of the Irish Government in charging those criminals responsible for the Omagh bomb, the NDF will carry out a number of attacks against those directly involved in the crime in the coming days."
