THE BRINGING OF THE TEARS (POEM)
The Bringing of the Tears
By the rivers of Omagh
the world has sat and wept with us -
for the happy children,
and the babies who held our hands,
for the devoted husbands and caring fathers,
for the treasured wives and loving mothers,
for the teenagers full of hope and promise,
for the fine sons and daughters, brothers and sisters,
whose work made us proud,
for those with whom we were schooled
for the years we wanted to share;
for those promised in love and valued in friendship,
for those who saw their children's children
and for the unborn little ones whom we never saw,
for those who belonged here
and those who came to visit,
for those who died
and those for whom life will never be the same again.
