GUITARIST PERFORMS SPECIAL PIECE FOR ANNIVERSARY
Guitarist performs special piece for anniversary
A SPECIALLY commissioned piece of guitar music will be performed by well known guitarist, Amanda Cook in Baronscourt Parish Church and Ardstraw Parish Church on the anniversary of the Omagh bomb.
The piece was written by composer, William Lovelady in memory of those who lost their lives in the bomb. It was inspired by a headline he saw in the Belfast Telegraph by Lindy McDowell: "This morning in Omagh the sun rose again. The birds were even singing in the trees. But nothing can convey the pain and sense of loss of the people here." The performances will be at the 9.30am service in Baronscourt and the 10.45am service in Ardstraw. Amanda will first play "Prelude from Cello Suite No. 6" by Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by the new piece, "This morning in Omagh the sun rose again."
As this short performance will take place instead of a sermon it is hoped that it will provide an opportunity for everyone to find a peaceful space to remember the tragic event that befell the community last year and at the same time, allow music to show its healing qualities.
