ADMIRATION FOR WAY LOCAL COMMUNITIES HAVE PULLED TOGETHER
Admiration for way local communities have pulled together
THE energy and resourcefulness of the Omagh community in the twelve months since the bombing has been praised by the North-West Branch of the British Association of Social Workers.
Extending sympathy and support to the bereaved, a spokesperson for B.A.S.W commended the local community for its determination to rise above the tragedy.
"Many of our members were involved in working with survivors and relatives in the aftermath of the bombing and they have great admiration for the way in which the local community have pulled together to enable people to make progress."
The spokesperson added: "While many problems, and much suffering, remains, there are also many stories of hope, and a determination to rise above the tragedy.
"These serve as a great example to those of us who work daily with the less advantaged, the ill and the needy in our society.
"It is a reminder of what can be achieved when the spirit and will of a people refuse to be beaten."
Last year representatives from Omagh were presented with a special British Red Cross Community Awards in recognition of the strength, selflessness and compassion of the ordinary people who rallied around to help one another. Sixteen Red Cross volunteers were also recognised for their actions.
This year the Red Cross is again looking for nominations of people who have displayed the same qualities.
