OMAGH DISASTER FUND THE SPORTING RESPONSE
Omagh Disaster Fund - the sporting response - a run, relay event
In response to the Omagh tragedy, a 50-mile charity run is being organised from Buncrana to Omagh, on account of both towns being connected with this disaster, this 'double' Marathon is a token of solidarity to the bereaved, injured and all families and friends of those affected by this terrible atrocity.
The organisers are adamant that this will be a major event supported not only by the people if the North-West but by the nation as-a-whole especially business and the sporting and athletic community.
the run takes place on Saturday, 19th September and will commence at 7.00 a.m. from Buncrana, the route will take in Fahan, Bridge End, Derry, Strabane, Newtownstewart and will finish in Omagh at approximately 3.00 p.m. the race will be structured into relays to suit both the elite runner and the slower long distance runners.
Donations - personal, business or groups - are much needed and would be appreciated. All contributions will be fully recorded in a book of donations/condolences and handed over with the donations to the official funds.
Runners interested in taking part in the run should contact organisers for application forms Marathon (or Omagh Leisure Centre) which must be completed and returned by Wednesday, 16th September. Naturally runners will be requested to participate in the fund-raising.
Sponsorship donations can be sent either to the organisers or lodged directly to the Omagh Disaster Fund
