FLORAL TRIBUTES TO FORM PART OF MEMORIAL
Floral tributes to form part of memorial
A DECISION has now been taken on the final destiny of the thousands of floral and written tributes, left in memory of the victims of the Omagh bomb.
Omagh District Council announced on Wednesday morning that all cards and message attached to the floral tributes would be retained and displayed as part of a permanent memorial. It will be open for viewing to the public at a later stage.
And plans are underway to collect those floral tributes reaching a stage of deterioration. They will then be dried for production into paper and used in a creative art form as a lasting memory to the victims of the atrocity.
The large selection of poems received at the Council offices are currently being collated for publication in aid of the Memorial Trust.
Meanwhile, the Council has again reminded the public that claims for mental or physical injury, as a result of the bomb, should be reported immediately. Claims can be lodged at the local police station or at the police desk which has been set up at the Council's Emergency Co-ordination Centre.
