DEEPEST REGRETS
Dear Editor,
I write to convey the deepest regrets of the Northern Ireland Volleyball Association formally to the people of Omagh and district for the terrible crime that has been perpetrated on them. On Monday I visited the town professionally and spent time with the R.U.C. and other emergency staff. I was horrified by the devastation and deeply impressed by the great compassion in your good town.
Omagh has given a great deal to a small sport like ours, including several international players, most notably Geoff Hill. On Wednesday of this week I was refereeing the Denmark versus Slovenia men's international match, in Denmark, and a moments silence was held because of my official presence as a mark of respect to the dead and injured of Saturday's crime.
It would have been best for Omagh had its name become known around the world for its volleyball. Sadly on the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, evil descended on the innocence of Omagh.
All our hopes and prayers are with your readers and the people of Omagh town.
