DEAR SIR, - I was also almost caught up in the Omagh bombing, arriving in the town ten minutes later, when nobody yet realised the true horrific consequence. I would commend those people who kept the traffic running smoothly, and especially (in my case) the staff at the Ulster bus depot who kept cool at a trying time and behaved with their usual efficiency, also providing transport to hospital for injured.
Since then (albeit at a distance) I have seen the tragic pictures and listened to those so inhumanely and wrongfully bereaved, and thought how movingly modest are Dr. Pinto's words: "I think we did a good job". On the other hand, how increasingly tedious and infuriating are the fuzzy buzzwords repeated parrot-fashion by politicians of every hue and persuasion.
A few more concrete actions would still speak much louder than so many superfluous words, and the people of Omagh, Northern Ireland and indeed, these entire islands, deserve better than these mere clockwork ventriloquists' dummies aka 'equivocating politicians' who are trundled out at such times to do their set party-piece for the media. In less Shakespearean words: Get Real and stop 'engaging in rhetoric' with your disingenuous, hypocritical psychobabble!! Yours etc.,
