ARRESTED FOR THEFT OF BOMB CAR
Arrested for theft of bomb car
THREE men, not believed to be connected with the so called 'Real IRA', were arrested in the Co. Galway town of Spiddal in connection with the theft of the car which was used for the bombing in Market Street.
Gardai have said that the three men, all in their twenties, could be part of a criminal ring that supplies arms and stolen cars to the renegade extremists. The Vauxhall Cavalier which carried the bomb was stolen in nearby Carrickmacross.
A Gardai spokesman who confirmed that investigations were underway said it was too early to establish the exact way in which the suspects fit into things.
Assistant Chief Commissioner, Kevin Carty has set up a task force to trace the car's movements from the time it went missing to the time of the atrocity. It is understood that the car had been held in a hideout in South Armagh and was fitted with false registration plates before making its journey to Omagh.
