Rising Sun Investigator summoned for Omagh Case
Detective Chief Superintendent Eric Anderson, the officer who was in charge of bringing the Rising Sun killers to justice in 1993 has been called upon to head the Omagh Investigation after RUC Chief Constable Ronnie Flanagan brought together a special task force to capture those responsible for last weekend's massacre. In 1993 the Greysteel terrorists who gunned down eight people in a UFF attack were arrested shortly afterwards, and the four men responsible were subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment for their roles in the attack.
Speaking on Sunday, Mr. Flanagan promised that Supt. Anderson and his team would be given every support necessary to find the Omagh bombers.
"No stone will be left unturned until we bring those people to justice," he said. The RUC Chief concentrate on the so-called Real IRA.
"It's fair to say our focus at this point in time would be on those who call themselves the 32-County Sovereignty Movement and those close to them.
"They are out to murder people for the sake of murdering people. That's what they have done".
Supt. Anderson said his investigation would begin with a painstaking examination of the scene.
"I, like so many other people, thought this war was over," he said.
"I never thought I would be back heading this type of investigation, but I can assure people that everything will be done; all resources will be poured into this investigation.
The RUC have already traced that the car used in the Omagh attack was stolen in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, a week earlier.
