SINN FEIN EXPLAINS QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS WITHDRAWAL

Sinn Fein explains Questions and Answers withdrawal

SINN FEIN withdrew from an RTE programme on the Omagh bombing over concern that the programme could degenerate into a party political point scoring exercise.
The party withdrew from Questions and Answers programmes which was broadcast from the Loreto Convent School in Omagh on Tuesday night.
In a statement the party said "In view of the awful tragedy affecting the people of Omagh and Tyrone Sinn Fein decided to withdraw from the programme.
Northern Director of Publicity, Jim Gibney, said "The decision to withdraw is due to concern that the programme could degenerate into a party political point scoring exercise which would be insensitive to the feelings of the relatives of those who lost their lives and those still recovering in hospital."
