Omagh will rise from the ashes - Allan Rainey
OMAGH will rise from the ashes and look to the future despite the horrific atrocity inflicted on the town by bombers on Saturday, the Vice-Chairman of the Council has said.
Ulster Unionist Allan Rainey said that whilst the present may look dim and dark there is a feeling that because of the support flowing into Omagh the town will become an international point and gain strength from the encouragement and support that has been given.
"We will look to the future, rise from the ashes and get back to normality".
Mr Rainey condemned Saturday's atrocity and extended his sympathy to those who are mourning, and wished a speedy recovery to those who have been injured.
He said that of the homes he had visited he had experienced a great sense of solemnity but said that deep down everyone was asking "Why" and "Will this be the last."
Mr Rainy said he had met with Secretary of State Mo Mowlam on Monday and had asked for her reassurance that the promises of the Prime Minister, Taoiseach, and the First and Second Ministers would not be void promises.
He also revealed that a deputation from the Congression of Trade Unions had visited Omagh to share in the grief of the community.
"It is nice that all the people coming to Omagh can find the time to visit and bring floral tributes and messages of sympathy. It is obvious that the depth of grief is genuine."
He thanked all those who had visited Omagh and genuinely grieved with the people.
