Carnival Children had lucky escape
DOZENS of children taking part in Saturday afternoon's carnival parade could have also been caught up in the blast.
Floats crammed with young people were due to pass along Market Street at the time the bomb exploded.
Fortunately, the parade had been delayed before it set off from the car park at nearby Killyclogher.
The chairperson of the group responsible for organising the week-long carnival slammed those responsible for bringing mayhem to the streets of Omagh.
Kieran Gallagher -speaking on behalf of all members of Focus - said everyone was "horrified" at the list of casualties.
"The festival was well publicised. They (the bombers) knew children would be there at that time. That bomb was meant to kill" he added.
Fellow organiser, Gerry McCusker conveyed the group's sympathies to those who had lost loved ones in the massacre.
"No words can describe our shock and abhorance at the outrage.
"I have just spoken to a man who lost his wife. He is totally devastated.
"Many people we know from local housing estates have either lost family members or know of someone who has been seriously injured. Our sympathies go out to them all" he added.
