BOMBING'S TENTH ANNIVERSARY TO BE MARKED WITH TWO CEREMONIES
Bombing's tenth anniversary to be marked with two ceremonies
THE tenth anniversary commemorative ceremony of the Omagh bombing will be held at 3pm on Friday, 15 August. The ceremony provides an opportunity for the bereaved, the injured, the emergency and support services and all those affected by the bomb to come together with the wider community in an act of remembrance.
Meanwhile members of the Omagh Support and Self Help Group plan to hold a further memorial ceremony next Sunday, August 17.
The ceremony on Friday afternoon will include the dedication of the Garden of Light memorial which has been well received. The families of the bereaved and injured have been kept fully informed of the memorial's development progress, as well as of the arrangements for the tenth anniversary commemorative ceremony.
A spokesperson for Omagh District Council, the organisers of the ceremony, said, "Invitations have been issued to all the bereaved families many of whom are attending. However the decision to attend is a personal one to be taken by each individual family. The council recognises that the tenth anniversary of the Omagh bombing is a difficult and emotional time and it will respect the individual decisions reached.
"It is our understanding that the Omagh Support and Self-Help Group is encouraging its members to attend the tenth anniversary commemorative ceremony on Friday as well as their personal memorial service."
