Alleged RIRA man 'quizzed on Omagh'
ALLEGED Real IRA leader Liam Campbell was questioned for four days about the Omagh bombing atrocity, it emerged on Friday.
The details came to light as his lawyers urged a judge not to oversee fresh extradition proceedings against him in Northern Ireland.
Dundalk farmer Campbell, 46, was arrested in Co Armagh last weekend when police rammed his car after discovering he had crossed the border from the Republic.
He was questioned for four days under British terrorism legislation about the Omagh bomb before being freed without charge, then immediately re-arrested under a European warrant issued by the Lithuanian authorities last year.
He is wanted in the east European state over a foiled plot to bring arms and explosives into Ireland two years ago. Campbell is also one of the five men being sued by relatives of some of the 29 people and two unborn babies killed in the atrocity.
Meanwhile, Justice Morgan will deliver his verdict on the Omagh Civil Action in the High Court, Belfast, next Monday morning.
A spokesperson for the Omagh Support and Self Help Group said the outcome of the case could have an enormous impact for victims of terrorism around the world.
"Whilst we don't wish to prejudge the outcome of the trial, it will be the end of a long struggle by the families to bring this case to court and whatever the outcome we wish to thank our law team for their dedication and everyone who has supported and contributed to make this possible."
