Ceremony marks eighth anniversary of atrocity

EIGHT years on since the bomb which tore the heart out of Omagh, the town marked the anniversary by gathering at the memorial garden.
About 200 people filled the garden to overflowing yesterday afternoon and spilled out onto the footpath at Drumragh Avenue.
The families of those killed or injured in the bomb on the August 15, 1998, gathered in respectful silence and joined in the prayers and singing.
Included in the crowd also were the doctors who came to the aid of the injured on the street just yards from the garden and at the Tyrone County Hospital.
Representing the British Government was Under Secretary of State David Cairns and on behalf of the Irish government Minister of State Brendan Smyth and wife Ann. From the Victims Unit, Edward Godfrey also was in attendance.
