Omagh film wins BAFTA
THE feature film which told the story of the Omagh bombing atrocity won major honours last night by picking up a BAFTA award. Co-writer and co-producer Paul Greengrass was also named in the British 'Oscars' held in London and hosted by Irish TV star Graham Norton.
The award-winning film, entitled Omagh, was produced jointly by RTE and Channel 4. Prior to last night's honours, the film won major awards at the Toronto and San Sebastian Film Festivals.
The film told the story of the 1998 bomb attack through the eyes of those directly affected. It raised some concern because of its vivid depiction of the bombing which claimed 31 lives and left hundreds injured.
Omagh-born actor Gerard McSorley played the central role depicting Michael Gallagher who lost his son Aidan.
