FIRST Minister David Trimble yesterday met relatives of the Spanish people killed and injured in the Omagh bomb.
The private meeting took place as the Ulster Unionist leader visited Madrid to address a conference as part of Human Rights Week.
He also planned to meet victims of the conflict in Spain during the one-day trip.
One Spanish teacher and an exchange student staying in Buncrana, Donegal were killed in the blast as they visited Omagh.
Mr Trimble said: "Spain has been very interested in and supportive of Northern Ireland in the lead-up to devolution and my attendance at the conference, alongside my meetings with senior members of the Spanish administration, enables me to express our heartfelt thanks."
