TODAY we know how many people were involved in carrying out the worst atrocity of the Troubles.
The Omagh bomb wasn't the work of four or five deranged individuals. It was a carefully executed outrage directly involving no fewer than 16 people.
That doesn't include the indirect assistance given to the killers by the likes of Colm Murphy.
To make matters worse, Sir Ronnie Flanagan yesterday revealed that the identities of all 16 are known to detectives. Yet they are still free, while the relatives of the 31 Omagh victims suffer every day.
This is not a police state. We do not expect people to be arrested and charged without evidence.
But there is surely something wrong in a system that seems so weighted against the victims and so protective of the perpetrators.
Sir Ronnie has tried to convince the Omagh relatives that his force carried out a thorough and scrupulous investigation into the atrocity.
The best argument he can make is to ensure the convictions do not start and end with Colm Murphy.
