Real IRA suspects arrested in dawn swoop by Gardai
TWO suspected leaders of the Real IRA were being questioned by Gardai last night.
Mickey McKevitt and Bernadette Sands were among four people arrested in dawn swoops around Dundalk. Co Louth.
Detectives were last night searching their plush seaside home.
The four were being held under Section 30 of the Republic's Offences Against the State Act. Gardai can keep them in custody for up to 72 hours without charges being brought.
McKevitt, 51, is the leader of the 32 County Sovereignty Committee, the political wing of the Real IRA which carried out the Omagh bomb atrocity in 1998.
Leading republican Bernadette Sands is a sister of IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands.
