Stars cancel Omagh match

SUNDERLAND last night pulled out of a game against Omagh Town amid a row over bomb fund charity matches.
The Premiership giants cancelled the pre-season friendly after newspaper cuttings and a documentary exposing the scandal were posted to the club.
In a statement, Sunderland referred to "significant media attention" on Omagh Town after matches against Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea to raise money for the fund set up after the 1998 bombing which claimed 29 lives.
Last night Omagh Town manager Roy McCreadie said: "There are irresponsible people in Omagh at the moment. For their own reasons somebody feels it is important that they send Sunderland all the recent bad publicity.
"All I would say to Sunderland is they've only heard one side."
A Sunderland spokesman said: "The club does wish to stress, however, that it is hopeful that the game can be rearranged in the future for the benefit and enjoyment of people in Omagh."
