THE BLOOD WOULD NOT STOP HE WAS GOING

The blood would not stop, he was going
By STEPHEN WHITE

MOTHER-of-two Conny Nevin was due at a family barbecue at a house warming on Saturday.
But the 35-year-old nursery nurse's quiet day turned into a horror she cannot comprehend.
Moments after the bomb she was comforting a 15-year-old girl. "You're going to be all right. You're going to make it," Conny, whose own children were safe, had whispered.
She said: "Her toes and feet were hanging off.
"I just kept talking to her. Her clothes were all ripped apart, she must have taken the full force.
"I don't even know if she's alive or dead or if she could hear me. She couldn't even squeeze my hand."
She added: "Everyone was screaming and screaming. Their faces were black.
"A woman asked me for an act of contrition.
Missing
"I could think only "Why? Who to?" then realised I could not remember the words.
"I bandaged a young man with a huge wound to his head, but the blood kept pouring. It wouldn't stop, he was going.
"A young girl next to him thought she could walk but there was a huge piece of shrapnel or bone sticking out of the top of her leg. She didn't realise.
"Another woman's leg was missing and her son, a wee boy of five or six, was just wailing 'Mummy'.
"In the rubble were a man's legs and water pouring down on top of them, nobody, nobody deserves to die like that.
"It was just a square of people that was complete chaos and horror, they just couldn't take it in."
