Cross-border super cup mooted
THE FAI and their northern counterparts, the IFA, yesterday discussed a proposal to create a summer super cup competition for the four UEFA competition qualifiers from north and south.
The proposal, which both associations are said to consider a progressive project, will be put before the respective leagues within the two associations, on February 15. Yesterday's meeting took place in Belfast.
Also on the agenda was making preliminary arrangements for the Omagh Trust Fund international at Lansdowne Road on May 29.
It has been agreed that the FAI will allocate an initial total of 3,400 tickets for distribution through the IFA for the fixture.
The FAI also recognised the extensive development programme of the IFA and congratulated them on their progress to date.
The FAI acknowledged the cross-community scheme and undertook to continue its policy of not approaching players born in Northern Ireland for the Republic national teams.
