Percy Shannon, President of the Golfing Union of Ireland, has presented a cheque for £50,000 to the Omagh Disaster Fund. This represents a substantial contribution from the Union and more than a hundred clubs that sent their donations direct to the GUI. The figure raised through the golf is substantially higher because many made their donations direct to the Omagh Fund.
The presentation of the cheque was made to Shane Cookman, General Manager, Moira Cassidy, Director of Golf at Portmarnock Hotel and Golf links who organised a golf outing on behalf of Darren Clarke that in itself raised more than £350,000.
