April Surprise back with a bang

IT was a night to savour at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night where a huge crowd turned up for the Omagh Bomb Victims Benefit Meeting and it looks as though something like �20,000 will be finding its way into the highly deserving coffers.
We were treated to a fantastic night's racing with a series of brilliant performances and doubles for trainers Paul Hennessy and Ger McKenna.
Hennessy gave his English Oaks challenger April Surprise her first run following a lay-off and the Irish Oaks winner produced a really game effort when coming from behind to win the Eyeman Open Bitch 525 In 29.42. He completed a quick double when Beaming Raven led all the way to win the Bord na Gaeilge 625 in 29.41.
McKenna completed a double as New Line Quest won the sprint in 19.29 while Kilscan Ash ran on strongly to win over 526 yards in 29.37.
There was a flying 31.89 run for the 575 yards from Frazer Black's all the way winner Gold Commentary while Seamus Graham's six-bend star Get Connected came from a mile behind to beat Palm Springs in 32.07.
In a pre-racing trial English tracker Im Okay clocked 29.05 in preparation for the National Puppy Stake which commences next weekend. Leading British puppy Droopys Merson will also be a challenger and, like Im Okay, will be handled by Dessie Gilbert.
