CORK TO HOST NEW YEAR GALA CONCERT FOR OMAGH

Cork to host New Year gala concert for Omagh
by Neans McSweeney

CORK'S City Hall is the venue for a gala fundraising concert early in the New Year, the proceeds of which go to the Omagh youth appeal. The 110-strong National Youth Orchestra, almost half of which comes from Cork, will perform at the Auditorium in City Hall on Sunday, January 3.
All funds raised go towards helping ease the plight of the youth of Omagh, many of whom were seriously injured in the bomb blast in August. Young people of all ages throughout the country are involved in the organisation of the event.
The Orchestra will be led by Aodhnait Fahy, a pupil of the Cork School of Music. Well-known international conductor, Gearoid Grant, will direct and Cork-born soprano, Cara O'Sullivan, is the guest artist on the night. Musician and radio presenter, Evelyn Grant, will compere the event.
Launching details of the concert, Education and Science Minister, Micheal Martin, commended all involved in the project on their tremendous commitment to the fund-raising drive.
