BRUTON WAS SO STEADY ON OMAGH
Bruton was so steady on Omagh
DOES Ryle Dwyer seriously believe that John Bruton is equivocal in his response to the atrocity perpetrated on this country in Omagh on Saturday (The Examiner August 19)? Does he propose that action should be taken in this matter before all the facts are known?
He got it spectacularly wrong when he accused John Bruton of "dancing on the fence" when he gave a measured response to questions on internment during an interview within hours of the explosion at a time when the country needed to steady its nerves.
John Bruton, and Fine Gael have been implacable in condemning violence from any source, and consistent in calling for the inclusion of all strands of political thought in Irish society, which has not always been popular.
As detailed in another article in The Examiner on the same day, all opposition parties are giving the government their full support for whatever measures are necessary to address this problem.
In that context I found Ryle Dwyer's comments intemperate, and irresponsible.
