Garda keep watch on suspects

GARDAI have mounted a major surveillance operation of known republican dissidents throughout the country in the wake of the bombing in Omagh. The weekend movements of up to 100 members of the breakaway republican organisation called The Real IRA who are believed to be responsible for the outrage, are being watched by armed special branch detectives to ascertain if they had any involvement.
According to garda sources, there are up to 20 Real IRA members in the Limerick area alone.
"They include some well-known republicans who have joined up the new breakaway group from the Provisional IRA. Limerick is one of the biggest of their recruitment areas," said one detective.
While no houses of dissident members of the IRA have yet been raided in Limerick and no link has been established, gardai are keeping a close watch. Meanwhile, Labour Deputy Jan O'Sullivan has called on anyone with any information to come forward.
Condemning the Omagh bombing, Deputy O'Sullivan said: "If there is anyone out there with any information then they must examine their conscience and help authorities in their search for those responsible."
