OMAGH DPP SHOCKED AND HORRIFIED AT MURDER OF COURAGEOUS YOUNG POLICE OFFICER
Omagh DPP 'shocked and horrified' at murder of 'courageous' young police officer
It is with great sadness that Omagh District Policing Partnership (DPP) members express their sincere sympathy at the tragic murder of police officer, Ronan Kcrr, killed after a bomb exploded under his car outside his Highfield Close home in Omagh on Saturday afternoon.
Chairperson of Omagh DPP, councillor Dr Josephine Deehan, said: "First and foremost my heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Ronan's family, friends and colleagues at this hugely traumatic time. This is a terrible tragedy for his family, for all who knew him and who served with him. He represented the modern day Police Service of Northern Ireland and was a courageous young police officer serving the community in its entirety. His death will be a great loss to all.
"This is indeed not the first time Omagh town has been visited by tragedy and many still carry the memories of the Omagh Bomb in 1998. Residents in Omagh are completely shocked and horrified by Saturday's atrocity and are trying to come to terms with the young police officer's death.
"Omagh DPP is resolved to building a community free of violence which respects human life and dignity We will continue to work to build community confidence in the PSNI and reiterate support for their vital work. As chair of the DPP I would urge the public to fully support us in so doing. I appeal to anyone who knows anything that could help the PSNI in their investigations to come forward. This brutal and criminal act does not have the support of the people of Omagh. Now is the time for the community to come together to work for the common good."
The vice-chairperson of Omagh DPP., Mrs Eithne McAnespy, concurred with the remarks of Dr Deehan, adding that the event has left everyone heavy-hearted.
"We had all thought these days were behind us. I wish to offer my personal sincere condolences to Ronan's mother Nuala, his brothers Aaron and Cathair and sister Dairina and entire family circle and also to his colleagues in the PSNI." Mrs McAnespy concluded.
