BOMB MEMORIAL VANDALISM

Bomb memorial vandalism

Police are investigating reports from Omagh District Council that the Omagh memorial monument, on Market Street, dedicated to the victims of the car bomb atrocity of August 15, 1998, was vandalised yesterday morning (Wednesday).
A police spokesperson said: "It appears that egg and tomato sauce were thrown at the glass monument in the town but it was cleaned up immediately."
According to the council, no damage has been caused to the monument, and 'immediate action' was taken by council staff to remove the debris and clean the glass pillar.
Police are now appealing for witnesses, or anyone with information relating to the incident, to contact them. They are also using CCTV footage taken in the area from around the time of the incident to assist them in their investigation.
