Technical problems' won't stop Omagh bomb garden being done on time - Council chief

CONCERNS over delays in the work on the new Omagh bomb memorial garden have been expressed at an Omagh District Council meeting.
At this month's council meeting, Independent councillor Paddy McGowan said building at the new garden, situated on the site of the former garden on Sedan Avenue, seemed to have stalled.
"Is there a delay on the Omagh bomb memorial garden? There doesn't seem to be much of a change week to week," Mr McGowan asked the council, raising concerns the garden may not be finished in time for the 10th anniversary remembrances this August. However, Omagh District Council chief executive, Danny McSorley, moved to allay any fears over the timescale of the project, adding some delays of a technical nature had come about, resulting in what appears to be slow movement on the physical nature of the garden.
"There have been a number of delays, but we are confident the project will be delivered on time. The small problems are technical in nature, but nothing that will stop the garden being finished under the current timeframe. We are keeping a tentative watch on progress. It's a technical engineering problem, which is not conducive to a steady flow," Mr McSorley said.
