Omagh families to meet with Secretary of State
The families of those killed in the 1998 Omagh bomb atrocity are to meet with NI Secretary of State, Mr Shaun Woodard MP, today (Thursday) to seek support for a full cross-border public inquiry.
Having sought redress through both criminal and civil proceedings, and following the 2007 acquittal of south Armagh electrician, Sean Hoey, amid unprecedented criticism of police processes, the families are clinging to the last vestiges of hope for justice.
Travelling to Hillsborough Castle today, the bereaved Omagh relatives have expressed hopes that Mr Woodard will take into consideration their concerns and their views on a way forward.
Mr Michael Gallagher, whose son, Aidan, was killed in the Real IRA attack, said: "The families see this as a very, very important meeting. Having exhausted all the remedies available to us within the legal justice system, we feel that this is the only option left open to us, and the only way forward for the families.
"This is the final and only way for the families to bring the public side of Omagh to an end, with a full cross-border public inquiry."
