Former Beirut hostage to launch Omagh Bomb Digital Archive
FORMER Beirut hostage, Terry Waite, will be in Omagh Library today (Thursday) to launch the Omagh Bomb Digital Archive.
Mr Waite, who was held captive by Islamic extremists in Lebanon from February 1987 until November 1991, will unveil the new archive, which can be viewed on the Internet at www.omagharchive.co.uk, at 10am.
The website has been developed by the Western Education and Library Board (WELB) Library Service in partnership with Omagh Support and Self Help Group (OSSHG) with funding from the Victims Strategy Implementation Fund.
It is based on the archive housed in Omagh Library which includes media coverage, cards, books of condolence and other material relating to the events of August 15, 1998.
The purpose of the archive is to ensure that all relevant material is properly and respectfully collected, preserved and organised for future use by victims and their families, the local community, academics, researchers and historians.
Since his release from captivity, Mr Waite has written several books about his experiences, and is also involved in charity work.
