Omagh bomb comment result in fines
A MAN from Londonderry who told police officers that "not enough policemen were killed in the Omagh Bombing" has received a suspended sentence.
Darren Cassidy (22) of Fanan Road, Londonderry, was also handed down maximum fines of �1,200 at Londonderry Magistrates Court.
He also admitted disorderly behaviour and assaulting a police officer in William Street in June. He was ordered to pay the officer �300 in compensation.
Magistrate Barney McElhom told Cassidy he had been just 200 yards from the bomb when it exploded on August 15th 1998.
He said that it had been a "gross obscenity on humanity".
Cassidy's solicitor said his client had been so drunk he couldn't remember what he had said, and that these were not his sentiments nor those of his family, but Mr McElholm told the court that it "had to be in there somewhere".
