THE sixth anniversary of the Omagh bomb atrocity of August 15, 1998, will be marked at a short service of remembrance being held under the banner of Omagh Support and Self Help Group on Sunday afternoon.
To be held at the memorial garden at Drumragh Avenue, the 29 people and unborn twins killed in the blast will be remembered. This is the first year the support group has solely organised the service, which on previous occasions had been a civic led public remembrance ceremony.
Beginning at 3pm., an interdenominational service of prayer, music and reflection will be conducted.
The service will open with a welcoming speech by Mr. Michael Gallagher, the support group chairman, whose 21- year-old son, Aidan, was among those murdered.
This will then be followed by a one-minute silence in memory of the families loved ones.
It is expected that the both the British and Irish Governments will he officially represented.
The assistant producer of the film 'Omagh' which has been shortlisted for the San Sebastian Film Festival, will also be making his way to the town for the anniversary service.
During the service a Spanish native, and friend of Rocia Abad Ramos, the Spanish leader who died in the atrocity, will participate in the reading of prayers.
Throughout the ceremony music will be performed by St Eugene's Brass Band and Leslie Matthews. Various clerics will be taking part in the ceremony.
Speaking on this year's service, Mr Godfrey Wilson, whose daughter, Lorraine, was killed in the blast, said: "I am delighted that so many people have agreed to take part in this year's service
'This year a Spanish representative will also be joining in the service and I am very pleased.
"We just hope everything goes according to plan and that there will be a good turnout at the service."
It will conclude with the laying of flowers by family and friends.
