Omagh bomb remembrance service
A REMEMBRANCE service to mark the anniversary of the Omagh bombing will be held at the Memorial Garden on Friday, August 15.
Commencing with a minutes silence at lpm, the half-hour service will combine music, readings and prayers as an act of civic remembrance marks the terrible event which shattered the town and community five years ago.
In a statement this week, Omagh District Council officials said that, from the beginning the feeling within the community was that it would be important to have a public memorial service to mark the anniversary of the bomb for the first five years and thereafter acts of remembrance should be private.
The next civic remembrance service will be to mark the 10th anniversary.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Mrs Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland, will give a lecture entitled, 'Learning to Heal Together. Lessons from Omagh to the world and from the world to Omagh'. It will explore how the community in Omagh can take steps into a shared future, and build on the experiences of other troubled communities.
The lecture will take place on Sunday, August 17, in Omagh Library.
