Omagh suspect to face trial over Real IRA charge
AN alleged member of the Real IRA, who is being sued by relatives of the Omagh bomb victims, is to go on trial next year, a Dublin court ruled this week.
Seamus Daly, 32, of Co. Monaghan, is charged with membership of an illegal organisation, styling itself as the IRA, between April 29, 1998 and November 20, 2000.
Although it is alleged that Daly was a member of the Real IRA, court charges do not recognise different factions of the paramilitary group.
Daly was arrested at his home in Culloville, Castleblayney, in February by police, who were helping to investigate the Omagh bomb outrage of August 1988, which left 29 people dead, including a mother pregnant with twins.
Daly is next due in court on February 17, 2004.
