Death toll was 31, not 29, insists coroner
It was quite clear there had been 31 fatalities as a result of the Omagh bombing, the coroner has said.
As well as the 28 people who died on the day and the man who died several weeks later, it should be considered that the unborn twins of Avril Monaghan were victims of the atrocity, Mr. John Leckey said.
He said, however, that he did not have the power to include their deaths in the inquest.
Mr Leckey said that personally he acknowledged that 31 people had died, but for the purpose of the inquest he had no jurisdiction over investigating the circumstances of their deaths.
He did, however assure the family that he would write to the Director of Public Prosecutions recommending that should anyone ever be brought to book for the bombing that they consider charging them with the destruction of the children
