FAMILIES NEED SUPPORT AND UNDERSTANDING
Families need support and understanding
THE families of those who died in the Omagh bombing, needed the understanding and support of the entire community, Omagh District Council chairman, Mr. Liam McQuaid, said yesterday.
He said the opening of the inquest into the Omagh bombing had refocused the attention of the world's media on Omagh.
"This will undoubtedly be a very difficult time for the families and we, the people of the Omagh district, must individually and collectively offer them all the help and support that we can during this testing time.
"We must also continue to support them, and all who continue to be distressed, into the future," he said.
He added: "I am pleased that the council was able to facilitate the holding of the inquest at the Leisure Complex. While I acknowledge the painful memories that this building holds for the bereaved, I think we are all agreed on the importance of the inquest being contained in Omagh and that being the case, the Minor Hall was the only venue suitable from a logistics point of view.
"Having viewed the facilities at the complex for myself, I am confident that the right decision was made.
"I note that the Churches Forum will start each day with a series of morning reflections and commend this initiative.
"I trust that it will bring some comfort to the bereaved and provide them with the inner strength that will be necessary to sustain them over the next painful and difficult few weeks. Our thoughts and prayers will be with them."
