September also brought about Ireland's first ever on-line Celebrity Auction. A host of stars from the world of television, entertainment and sport contributed to the unique auction. Included in the items up for grabs were Formula One driver Eddie Irvine's helmet, Darren Clarke's jacket from Valderama and a limited edition disc from Boyzone.
People were able to log on to the internet and register their interest in any of the items with he highest bidder taking his chosen object home. All the proceeds went to the Omagh Fund.

In a spectacular never witnessed in Omagh before, thousands flocked to Omagh Showgrounds for the free Corrs concert.
A message of hope and peace went out from Omagh across the entire United Kingdom with the lighting of the Millennium beacon, a symbol of the aspiration of a brighter future.
Television personality, Eamon Holmes , acted as compere and local entertainers such as Dominic Kirwan, the Omagh Community Youth Choir, Tom Sweeney and Arty McGlynn warmed up the crowd for the upcoming attraction.
