Omagh bomb anniversary plans being finalised
ARRANGEMENTS to mark the anniversary of the Omagh bomb are still being finalised.
Over the past few weeks, a number of meetings have been held, involving a range of interests affected by the bomb, or involved in the life of the local community, to discuss plans for the anniversary weekend.
An outline of the arrangements to date includes the Market Street area of the town being closed to through-traffic from the close of business on Friday, August 13, until Monday morning.
On the Saturday, shops will be closed for one hour, between 2.30pm and 3.30pm.
And that evening, an anniversary Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Church at 6pm.
On Sunday, August 15, all churches will be invited to use anniversary prayer and readings in their morning worship.
And in the afternoon, the main remembrance ceremony will be held in High Street, to coincide with the 3.10pm time of the bomb.
The ceremony will begin at 2.55pm, and those attending are asked to be in place for 2.30.
A ceremony will be held, simultaneously, in Market Square, Buncrana.
Speaking at a meeting of the Sperrin Lakeland Trust Board meeting, Mr. David Bolton, director of community care, said local clergy had scripted the main Sunday ceremony.
"It is a very moving piece, although it is not yet finalised," he said.
"There is a lot of work going on and hopefully final details will be arranged early next week."
