POET AND SONGSMITH MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS TO OMAGH PROMOTIONAL VIDEO
Poet and songsmith make contributions to Omagh promotional video
FILMING is underway for a promotional video about Omagh, sponsored by the television company that offended many local people in the aftermath of the Market Street bombing.
The Carlton Television produced Thursday Night Live' Omagh special caused outrage when it was broadcast on August 20 last year, and the company was later ordered to issue a public apology by the Independent Television Commission.
Omagh District Council soon entered into negotiations with Carlton about the production of a video, which was then assigned to Emerald Productions. The producer will be Mr Eddie McCaffrey, a native of Omagh.
Emerald has enlisted the support of Seamus Heaney and Van Morrison, who have agreed to provide a voice-over and musical accompaniment for the project.
The video will promote Omagh's growing tourism industry by focusing on the positive aspects of the area, including the arts, culture, sport and leisure.
Mr Peter Rushton, from Carlton Television, said he was pleased that the project was going ahead.
"Following our Thursday Night Live' programme on Omagh we offered to produce a promotional video for the town. We're delighted that, after discussions with local people, it is now happening," he said.
Emerald Productions will be filming in and around Omagh and the surrounding district in the coming weeks, and the video will be completed by the end of the summer.
