FOUNDATIONS WORK NEARS COMPLETION ON BOMBED BUILDING

Foundations work nears completion on bombed building

THE final stages of the foundation work on the first of the properties to be rebuilt in Market Street is due to get underway tomorrow (Friday).
Building contractors, McCallion Construction, moved onto the site more than three weeks ago, and since then have been working below ground level on the basement construction for Curran's Opticians.
The building is expected to be completed by the end of November, Mr. Richard Collins, of Collins Design, said this week.
Mr. Collins, who is involved in the redevelopment of a large part of the bomb site, said he hoped that work on the other properties would be underway by September.
"Tomorrow the builders will be pouring in the concrete, which is the final stage of the foundation work for Curran's. The foundations are specialist foundations with a lot of steel work below ground level, and the concrete will complete them," he said.
"By the start of next week, the blockwork will begin on the main building, which should be finished by the end of November."
