Bomb victim has that perfect look for fairytale wedding
A LOCAL hairdresser and beautician brought a bit of Tyrone style to England recently, when they helped an Omagh bomb victim look perfect for her fairytale wedding.
Helena McCallan and Violet Armstrong not only helped out with the preparations, but were also privileged to be among the private guests at the intimate wedding of Sandra Smith to her sweetheart, Mark Blackwell, in Lancaster.
The supremely talented Helena, of Helena's Unisex Salon, Omagh, and Violet, of Silhouette Beauty Salon, Castlederg, harnessed their beautifying talents and went to work with their brushes and blushes to make the bomb-injured bride look stunning on her big day in June.
The dedicated work of both women helped to enhance Sandra's good looks, and ensured she had a beautiful collection of wedding photographs to treasure forever.
After the moving ceremony, the bridal party were taken to the Ashton Memorial Folly, where photographers from OK! magazine recorded the happy moment, which many thought they would never see.
Violet and Helen were on hand to ensure the bride looked flawless in the blazing sunshine, and said afterwards they felt proud that their work would be seen internationally.
Sandra Smith, a nursing assistant, originally from Fivemiletown, was standing only 10 feet away from the site of the Market Street bombing.
While recovering from her horrific injuries in the Erne Hospital, Sandra received so many flowers that she offered a bouquet to fellow patient, Violet Armstrong, who was not caught up in the blast.
And later, when Sandra learned that Violet was a beauty therapist by trade, she insisted that Violet attend her wedding, along with her long-time hairdresser, Helena.
Sandra met her future husband, Mark Blackwell, in a muddy field at a Christian music festival in England, only four weeks before the Omagh bombing. He rushed to be by her side in hospital when he heard the news, and proposed to her while she was recovering.
They are currently on honeymoon in Jamaica.
