Omagh bomb probe: seven still held
SEVEN people were still being questioned on both sides of the border last night (Wednesday) in relation to enquiries into the Omagh bombing.
Four were being questioned by the RUC, and three by the Gardai.
A total of nine people were arrested in border areas of the Republic between Sunday and Wednesday.
All but three had been released without charges, said a spokesman at Garda headquarters in Dublin.
An RUC spokeswoman confirmed, meanwhile, that four people arrested in Co. Armagh were still being detained.
Earlier this week the RUC said four officers were injured when police were attacked by an angry crowd at a search operation at Jonesboro.
A spokesman said: "As part of the ongoing investigations into the Omagh bombing and other serious crimes, police carried out several searches in the South Armagh area on Sunday.
"At one of the search locations in Jonesboro, officers were confronted by a crowd of up to 15 intoxicated and very aggressive people, some of whom had been attending a party nearby."
He said police were attacked by beer glasses, cans and hurling sticks.
"The public order aspect of this incident is under active investigation," the spokesman added.
