PEACE AWARD PRESENTED TO BOMB VICTIM

Peace award presented to bomb victim

CLAIRE Gallagher, the Loreto Grammar School pupil who was blinded by the Market Street bomb, recently accepted an international peace and justice award on behalf of the people of Omagh from the pupils of a school in Waterford.
The Omagh Community Youth Choir, which is made up of secondary level pupils from schools throughout the town, assembled in the music room at Loreto to participate in a video link-up with St Angela's Secondary School, Waterford.
The choir performed 'Across the Bridge of Hope', which was their contribution to the charity album of the same name.
St Angela's Peace and Justice Group presented the award to Claire in recognition of her bravery and determination over the past seven months. Claire travelled south to receive the award of a specially-commissioned piece of Waterford Crystal in the shape of a piano - her favourite instrument.
The renowned journalist John Pilger shared the prize for his investigative reporting around the world.
Previous recipients have included Gordon Wilson, who famously forgave the IRA for murdering his daughter in the Enniskillen bombing.
