Singing and soccer stars in limelight
THOUSANDS of people from all over the Province attended the Concert for Omagh in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast, on Sunday night.
Among the audience of the star-studded event were some of those who were bereaved, and affected by the Omagh bomb, and members of the emergency and medical services.
Heading the line up were Belfast born singer/song writer, Brian Kennedy, and singer, Mary Black.
Omagh singer Dominic Kirwan, the Sands Family and the Ulster Orchestra also preformed.
There was also impressive performances from Rosemary Woods, who was accompanied by Jim and Alex Elder, and Siobhan Skates.
The comperes for the evening were Ulster Television presenter, Michael Nesbitt, and BBC Radio Ulster presenter, Gerry Anderson.
The concert, which raised thousands of pounds for the Omagh Fund, was organised by Bangor housewife, Judith Thurley, who told the packed Waterfront Hall when she heard about the atrocity she felt horror, grief, fear and guilt.
"My deepest thanks to all those who have helped and encouraged, to those who have done all the hard work and taken none of the credit, to those who care enough to say yes to a stranger, to all the artistes who have given so generously of their time and immense talents. May there be healing for all of us," she said.
Meanwhile, Brian Kennedy joined the Londonderry-born musician Phil Coulter, to sing two songs before an 8,000 sell-out crowd at Londonderry's Brandywell football ground for a floodlit charity football match to raise money for the Omagh Fund.
A number of international football stars, including French soccer star, David Ginola, Ally McCoist and Nicky Butt, took part in the event.
