Galaxy of local stars to appear in concert for Omagh Fund
A STAR-STUDDED concert featuring a host of local artistes, is set to boost the fund set up for victims of the Omagh bombing.
Numerous famous local faces have pledged their support for the concert, which is to take place on Tuesday, October 27, in the Royal Arms Hotel, Omagh.
Those taking part include Brian Coll, Dominic Kirwan, Eden Pipe Band, Frank Chisum, Juliet Turner, Knotty Pine String Band, Philomena Begley, Rock Stewart, Speedy Hamilton, St. Eugene's Brass Band and Tom Sweeney. The compere for the evening will be Highland Radio DJ, Pio McCann, from Omagh whose daughter was injured in the atrocity.
"All the artistes are from the Omagh area, and are performing free of charge," said Mr. Dai Waterson, who is organising the event with the help of the artistes.
"All the artistes are very enthusiastic about the project, not only in relation to the money raised for the fund, but also for the good relations it will create amongst the local community," said Mr. Waterson, who said they were convinced of getting a full-house for the event.
He explained that the cross-community event would follow the theme - 'Omagh together again. Let the health begin'.
Mr. Waterson said the extravaganza was to begin and end with prayer by local clergy.
"We also hope to arrange for St. Eugene's Brass Band and Eden Pipe Band to join together to play 'Amazing Grace' towards the end of the concert. At this point we would like the audience to rise and sing with the music," he said.
Meanwhile, top names from the world of music and film are joining forces to aid victims of the atrocity.
A star-studded compilation album featuring Ash, U2 and Sinead O Connor is reported to be in the final stages of planning with all proceeds going to the Omagh Memorial Fund.
Top pop group, Ash, from Downpatrick, has already donated a track to the album entitled 'I'm Gonna Fall', from their fouthcoming album, 'No Clear Sound'.
Ballymena born film star, Liam Neeson, is also reported to have donated the proceeds from his legal action against a national newspaper to the Fund. He is understood to have received 'substantial damages'.
