MEETING RELECTS ON BOMB AFTERMATH
Meeting reflects on the bomb aftermath
The Omagh community and Police Liaison Committee which met on Friday unanimously condemned the August 15th bombing.
Members said the tragedy had strengthened the good community sprit already prevailing in Omagh, and that the community united in its grief was fundamental to the healing process.
The committee's normal agenda was set aside, and the meeting was dedicated to reflecting on the aftermath of the bomb where sympathy was extended to those bereaved and injured.
Members thanked the RUC's local sub-divisional commander, superintendent James Baxter and his staff, for their outstanding work, and the caring manner when they carried out their duties.
Tributes was also paid to the sterling work of those who assisted at the scene the fire service, ambulance staff, hospital staff, military staff and members of the public.
Members commended. Those who helped at the leisure centre - the centres staff, clergy, councillors and the public.
And the chairman, Mr. William Harper, praised the entire community for its support and assistance during the past few weeks.
Speaking afterwards, Mr. Harper said: It was recognised again that those affected by this horrific tragedy would need the support of the whole community and that each and every one of us could provide a much needed "listening-ear."
